Removal at the original source

The cleanest outcome is often for the website or publisher to remove the page itself. Once the source has gone, Google should eventually stop showing it, although cached information may need separate attention.

Removal from Google

In some circumstances Google may remove a result even when the page remains online. Eligibility depends on the content, jurisdiction and the relevant search policy. This is usually called de-indexing.

Suppression is different

Suppression does not remove content. It attempts to make other, more relevant pages appear above it. It can be useful when removal is unavailable, but should not be presented as the same service.
